2017: 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE ISC
80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE ISC
2017 marks the 80th anniversary of the foundation of the ISC in Rome, Italy.
Planning work is under way on my part for a commemorative event in Italy, most probably in Torino. The city was the workplace of Cesare Lombroso, one of the major founders of current criminology; is the site of the museum displaying the collection of Lombroso during his activities (including his skeleton on display); and is now also a city marked by considerable criminological activity.
As you are aware, the financial situation in Europe is not that stable or prosperous. Recently some Italian banks, including the major one, had to be "rescued"... so we shall see what happens with financial support of an initiative related to the 80th anniversary of the ISC. Any ideas, proposals, suggestions, and... Contributions will be welcome.
I will keep you informed of any major development.
I also encourage you to think about organizing events related to this anniversary or at least to include a prominent mention of it in conferences and other scholarly events in criminology in your country or region.
2017 CRIMINOLOGY FESTIVAL
I am proposing that our distinguished members organize a 'CRIMINOLOGY FESTIVAL" at some point during 2017 at their University, Agency or City to mark the 80th anniversary of the ISC and the advances and contributions of criminology and criminal justice studies... It does not need to be long, one day, one afternoon may be sufficient, and it does not need to be expensive. Please give the matter some thought. This could become a permanent fixture of the calendar connected to the ISC: Criminology Festival or Criminology Day or Day of the Criminologist or similar.... Let us know!!!

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR 1ST, 2ND, 3RD PRIZES, AND HONORABLE MENTION FOR PAPERS PRESENTED AT THE WORLD CONGRESS OF CRIMINOLOGY 2017 & OFFERED FOR PUBLICATION.
INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF CRIMINOLOGY
Emilio C. Viano, President
26 December 2016
Dear Participant in the 18th World Congress of Criminology,
First of all, I want to thank you for attending and taking active part in the 18th World Congress of Criminology recently held in the Delhi Capital Region, India.
Your participation was a key factor in its success. I am glad that the Congress could offer you a great opportunity to showcase your work, obtain feedback from your peers, and contribute to the further development and recognition of Criminology as a scientific endeavor with practical applications.
PUBLICATION OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE CONGRESS
I am writing you today to let you know that the International Society of Criminology (ISC) intends to publish the better papers presented at the Congress. Ideally, all papers may be published. Our plan is to publish as many papers of quality as possible. This will not allow the mass publication of everything presented at the Congress. This would greatly diminish the prestige and credibility of the publication.
You are invited to send your paper as is or revised in light of the comments you received at the Congress for consideration for publication. Please send an electronic copy in Word or RTF format. Do not send a PDF file.
Where to send your paper: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Deadline for sending your paper: January 10, 2017
Date by which you will learn if your paper will be published (at times subject to
revisions and/or changes, rewrites): February 28, 2017
To be considered your paper must conform to the general format used for scholarly papers: Title, Full name of the author(s), affiliation and address,
Phone, email, Skype or WhatsApp if available; Abstract; Body of the paper; Bibliography; Brief statement about the Author(s)
PERMISSION TO PUBLISH
Your paper must be accompanied by a signed permission to publish in case your paper is accepted for publication. Please see the enclosed Consent to Publish form. If your paper is not accepted for publication and/or you do not hear from us by 28 February 2017, the Consent to Publish becomes null and void.
(NOTE: If your paper is received after January 10, it may still be considered at the discretion of the ISC; however the date for notifying you will be automatically extended past February 28 by the number of days past January 10 when the paper is received)
COMPETITION FOR PRIZES AND RECOGNITION
All the papers sent in by January 10, 2017 will be considered for an ISC award distributed as follows:
- 3 FIRST category prizes with a purse of US$300 each, a certificate of award, and publication
- 5 SECOND CATEGORY prizes with a purse of US$200 each, a certificate of
Award and publication
- 5 THIRD CATEGORY prizes with a purse of U$100 each, a certificate of
Award and publication
- Up to 20 HONORABLE MENTION certificates with likely publication.
All papers sent for publication in the Proceedings of the 18th World Congress will be entered automatically in this competition, unless the author specifically declines this opportunity.
Depending on the quality of the papers received, the ISC may not award any or all the
Prizes listed above. The decisions of the ISC are final.
Papers already published do not qualify for this competition.
ACTUAL DELIVERY OF THE AWARD AND CERTIFICATE
The award and certificate will be delivered once the production process of the volume containing the papers so recognized is concluded. This normally occurs when the author approves the final version of the page proofs. In other words, authors are expected to cooperate in a timely manner with the speedy publication of the material. This cooperation is an integral part of the conditions of the award. The award may be withdrawn should an author choose not to cooperate with reasonable and customary requests for assistance in the editorial and production phases of publication of the book.
TAX RESPONSIBILITY
The recipient of an award that carries a financial prize is responsible for any taxes and other obligations imposed by the State having jurisdiction over the matter.
PUBLISHERS THE ISC WORKS WITH
The ISC normally works with Springer, a quality and prestigious publisher; IOS Press in The Netherlands; Taylor and Francis; Rowman and Littlefield, and others.
